Love was in the Eyre as the luxurious Hotel Meyrick hosted "Myrtle Ivory at the Meyrick" -- Bringing together Galway's leading wedding venue and the country's foremost bridal boutique Myrtle Ivory. This highly anticipated event was hosted by style guru Marietta Doran. Headlining the fashion show was award-winning UK bridal designer Stephanie Allin, who most notably created Amy Huberman's sensational gown for her recent nuptials to Irish rugby star Brian O' Driscoll. Guests were treated to a Canapés & wine reception, Bobbi Brown at Brown Thomas provided delightful makeovers, the therapists in The Square Spa at Hotel Meyrick provided beauty treatments while Belissimos provided an insight in creating the 'must have' hair styles for your big day! With the white runway set in the opulent surrounding of The Connemara Suite at the 4 star hotel, a selection of breath-taking gowns from international designers were showcased on the night. Post Race Week

What a wonderful raceweek - kicked off by Hotel Meyrick sponsoring the first race on the Galway's Best Hotels Race day on Monday 26th and then it was all go.

Tommy Bowe and Tracy Piggott were at the hotel catching money in our MEYRICK CASH ENCLOSURE with Paddy Power.

On Tuesday the BUBBLES & DELIGHTS Fashion Soiree was a hit with a fabulous array of summer fashion from Olivia Danielle in Athlone, Squisito in Clarinbridge, Select Boutique, Colette Latchford, Madison and Anthony Ryans, all in Galway City.

Brown Thomas showcased part of their Autumn Winter Collection and their Estee Lauder make up artists were on hand to ensure all the ladies were picture perfect before going to the Races.

Wednesday saw an influx of yet more style with a noticeable increase in the number of hats getting on the buses outside. Amongst them was the lucky winner of the Mark T Burke hat that was especially created for our Fashion Show and also the winner of the beautiful Ebony Cuff donated by Okinara House of Fashion in Moycullen.

Ladies Day was full of colour and laughter with a turnout of over Thursday 44,000 attending the Races, up over 2,000 on the 2009 figure! The MEYRICK CASH ENCLOSURE was a huge success with 7 winners grabbing the €4,000.

Galway Bay FM's Jimmy Norman kept Fagan's Bar buzzing on Thursday and Friday nights with some fun 80's tunes and the Irish Motor Neuron Disease Association got their dancing shoes on and put us all to to shame with the West Coast Big Band.

Sunday was time for the Mad Hatters day at the Races and the families came out in force with alternative hats a plenty. The City stayed buzzing til well after midnight and Monday was filled with hearty breakfast and tired but happy faces waving farewell to Galway .... til the next time ....

After bringing Dublin the hugely successful Pichet restaurant with business partner Steve Gibson last year, Nick Munier is currently showing his latest body of art, aptly called The Pichet Collection, which will open at Hotel Meyrick, Galway on Wednesday 23rd June 2010.
While better known as a restaurateur (the once Hell's Kitchen Maitre'D has also worked with the likes of Marco Pierre White and the Roux Brothers to name but a few), Nick is also a well established and well shown artist both in Ireland and in the UK. This is his second exhibition but first in Galway, which will run until Friday 25th June in the lobby of the Hotel Meyrick.

It's time to experience the white-water action of SuperStock powerboat racing. It's fast-paced, action-packed with engines of 150 & 300 horse power that can reach speeds of 80 miles per hour. In simple terms - they could get from Galway Docks to the Aran Islands in 20 minutes flat!!! And you thought the Volvo Boats were fast!!

Racing takes place today from 11am-3pm with the competetors racing from Galway to Killybegs - 174 miles which should take approx 4 hrs. The Prize giving starts from 5pm. At this moment Cinzano Bianco has arrived in Killybegs. Track the powerboats LIVE here.

Galway's surely Rocking the Docks this year with an array of musical talent gracing the stage, and there's even more to come with the Galway Powerboat Festival and racing continuing until Saturday June 12th. Legendary Liverpool and Republic of Ireland player Ronnie Whelan kicks off his Rocky Road to Dublin Walking Challenge this Thursday 29th April. There are 4 Stages of the Challenge.

By taking part you are helping to raise awareness and funds for the Myasthenia Gravis Association of Ireland. Ronnie's daughter Elizabeth was diagnosied with MG in 2005.

The 1st Stage: The Western Way will take place here in Co. Galway.
Distance: 50km

Clocks at the Hotel Meyrick, Eyre Square, Galway

When you check in at the Hotel Meyrick, Eyre Square, Galway, you will find two rather striking clocks located either side of the Hotel Meyrick Reception Desk.
George Dobbyn is responsible for the Clock to the right of reception. George a watch, clock and chronometer maker whose manufacturing workshop was at 14 Wicklow Street, Dublin circa 1845 to 1854. This particular piece is estimated to be from circa. 1850.
"Watchmaker and Clockmaker to Her Majesty's offices and the Irish Railways." In 1875 he was advertising as 'Watch Clock & Timepiece Makers to the Hon. Board of Public Works and Irish railways'.

How fitting it is now, that this clock now stands tall, overlooking Eyre Square nestled by the window of the former "Railway Hotel".

Your Country Your Call comes to Galway and will be held at Hotel Meyrick in the Connemara Suite this Wednesday. The workshop is open to the public are free of charge and will take place as follows:

So the weekend is upon us again, and with that comes the Premiership, NFL (in GAA terms), the Magner's Celtic League! So if you're settling into Galway for the #iba10, then pop in for this afternoons footie before everything kicks off tonight.

From 3pm this Saturday afternoon we have Chelsea v Aston Villa KO 3.00pm. Can Chelsea secure a win to move back to the top the table, we'll see as Villa have been having a rather impressive run of late.
Later to a 5.30pm kick-off Bolton Wanderers play at home to Manchester United. With United only 1 point ahead of Chelsea, a win at the Reebok Stadium would just edge them in front again.
Both of the above matches are Live in Fagan's Sports Bar.

With Arsenal playing away to Birmingham City at 3.00pm ( unfortunately we don't have this game) & with Arsenal only 2 points from the top if both Chelsea & Man. Utd stumble today this would put Arsene Wenger's side on top.

On Sunday Liverpool play Sunderland at 4.00pm

So....
Caitriona and Gary held their Wedding at Hotel Meyrick, Eyre Square Galway on February the 6th 2010.
Renowned as Galway's leading reception venue, guests enjoyed a glitzy champagne reception followed by a delicious four-course meal in the majestic Connemara Suite ballroom. The bridal party amused guests with hilarious speeches & comical moments with live entertainment from Mystic Force Dance Troupe followed by DJ Freebird who played the hits til the early hours.

6 Nations Begins

Ireland’s RBS 6 Nations Campaign went off to a flying start with a comfortable victory over Italy in Croke Park on Saturday Feb 6th 2010. With a score line of 29-11, this leaves Ireland in 1st position of the table with a higher points difference over England. There was a very large crowd in Croke Park with an estimated 77,686 fans in attendance as too had Fagan’s Sports Bar with a very good crowd enjoying the game LIVE across our Big Screens. Fans and staff alike sported green jersey’s to support Ireland, the lads and ladies behind the bar will be continuing with this tradition right up until March 20th when Ireland play Scotland at home in what could see a repeat of Ireland’s performance which secured them 6 Nations Victory.

Ireland’s next encounter is away against France with kick-off at 4.30pm on Saturday 13th Feb. An entertaining affair is expected. For those of you unable to travel to Stade de France for Ireland’s next game on the cards, why not join us with your bit of green and watch the action unveil in the comfortable and stylish surroundings of Fagan’s where we will be providing Complimentary Finger Food after 40mins.

This weekend Hotel Meyrick held our first ever Mock Wedding!On a cold wet November day, while pondering over some novel ideas on what best way to showcase our beautiful hotel to potential brides and grooms, the idea of a mock wedding was formed!
Why not let couples experience a wedding here for themselves rather than take our word for it - so the idea was put into action. Simple! All we needed now were a bride and a groom.

The cast comprised of Bride and Groom (Maire Eilis Ní Fhlaithearta & Seamus Moran from Ros Na Rún), the Priest Fr Short (Alan Short) and very entertaining bestmen, beautiful bridesmaid, and welcoming parents of the bride and groom! The guests were newly engaged couples who have either booked their wedding at Hotel Meyrick or are looking at potential venues.

Oysters at the Oyster Grill

Galway hosts the Galway International Oyster Festival, one of the biggest events in Ireland's social calendar. A feast of live entertainment, gourmet food, fine wine and of course Oysters and Guinness.

Therefore it was only fitting that our Restaurant and Bar, aptly named the Oyster Bar and Grill, should reflect that tradition serving fresh Galway Oysters to guests from all corners of the globe.

The Hotel Meyrick formerly the Great Southern Hotel was the centre point of the Galway Oyster Festival for many years, hosting the Oyster Festival Gala Ball each year and we are privilaged to be hosting the event again since 2009.

We will slowly put up a short YouTube video giving a brief glimpse of the Oyster Grill Restaurant and a demonstration on opening of Oysters by Head Chef Malachy Lenihan.

It’s that time of year again and you need to kick off the New Year with a new you. A new year and a fresh start.
Its time to start the skin care regime you’re always talking about. Caring for your skin can begin at any age from your twenties, thirties, forties and up it’s never too late. Don’t be overwhelmed with the huge choice of skin care available to you and just start with the basics. Dermalogica have excellent products and is the skincare range we use here in the square spa. 4. Moisturize

Although Most Spring Brides may have ordered their wedding dresses by now, we are going to take a look at the following trends that are sure to last through to the end of the summer 2010.
